Tempe Collision Reviews New 2017 New Ford F Series Super Duty

If for some reason you hadn’t already heard by now, Ford recently announced their 2017 line of their Ford F Series Super Duty vehicles. Unveiled in an unusual but perhaps the most American way possible (at the State Fair of Texas, of course) the new series shows off some new improvements to the lineup as well as obvious keepers from previous updates. Since any new vehicle series is exciting news to our ears, our Tempe collision center is ready to take a closer look at the vehicles and we hope that you will join us in checking them out in this article.

Long considered the best-selling heavy duty pickup, the Super Duty series continues the trend of large, workhorse vehicles that help get tough work done. The changes and upgrades to this year’s model doesn’t seem any different. Ford recently swapped steel for their high-grade aluminum body, added improved mileage, and components that make work and home life much easier.

TEMPE COLLISION CENTER DISCUSSES MATERIAL CHANGES
Perhaps the biggest and potentially most controversial change to the Ford Super Duty is the swap of aluminum from steel for body material. And keep in mind this is not just any aluminum. As we’ve reported before, Ford has introduced a high-strength, military-grade aluminum to some of its vehicle lineups in 2016 and this one proves no different.

This aluminum alloy material is different from the traditional steel we typically see in vehicles. Highly regarded as a lightweight yet incredibly durable metal, including the metal on the Super Duty demonstrates its ability to get even the toughest jobs done with little compromise. The metal is more rust and dent-resistant than you would find in the traditional steel bodies and can better withstand collision damage. We know that’s welcome news to any of our Tempe collision repair customers! Additionally, because the aluminum alloy is a lightweight material, it even improves gas mileage and can tow heavy loads without weighing your truck down too much.

Perhaps one of the flaws with the new aluminum alloy bodies that has come up recently is a slightly slower assembly process. When Ford first introduced the aluminum body design, the process initially had to be completed in two different plants. This meant a slower assembly which put the company behind schedule and in sales. However, as Ford has starting improving their process, they have also started to see significantly faster assembly production and it’s a risk that has paid off.

TEMPE COLLISION DISCUSSES TECH CHANGES TO THE SUPER DUTY
In addition to the big material change, the 2017 Ford Super Duty will also feature a greater range of smart technology available to owners. In certain models of the F Series Super Duty, for example, you will find upwards of seven cameras spread across the vehicle to assist in parking, towing, and driving. These will help the driver to better see all around and even assists in being able to better see around trailers.

The 2017 Ford F Series Super Duty is expected to begin selling through dealerships around this time next year and our Tempe collision techs are looking forward to seeing these new changes in person!
