Tempe Collision Reviews New Nitrocell Nitrogen Plastic Welder

In July, the Urethane Supply Company revealed its highly anticipated addition to the collision repair industry at the NACE conference in Detroit. Called the 6066-CG Nitrocell, it is a nitrogen-powered plastic welder that will be the first commercialized version made specifically for collision repair shops. Our own Tempe collision repair center is excited about the news, so read on to learn more about this technological advancement and how it can help you receive faster, less expensive service in the future.

THE 6066-CG NITROCELL PLASTIC WELDER
The first of its kind, the 6066-CG Nitrocell Plastic Welder by Urethane Supply Company is a major technological advancement for the collision repair industry as it creates a higher quality repair for plastic components while also reducing costs and time for the repair process.

The most interesting component of this machine, and the action that separates it from other similar devices, is that it generates its own nitrogen instead of relying on a separate tank to supply the chemical. Instead, it sources nitrogen that naturally occurs in a Tempe collision repair shop and this can be used to weld the thermoplastics becoming increasingly common in vehicle manufacturing. The air goes through a circulation and three-stage filtering process to, first, filter out any impurities from the air to ensure that what enters the system is clean. The air collected then gets separated into two streams: one that creates an endless stream of nitrogen gas for welding and another that releases the other gasses (such as oxygen and carbon dioxide) back into the air.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR CUSTOMERS
As with all new technologies our Tempe collision center reports on, there are plenty of potential benefits for customers. The two primary benefits that customers can expect from this are faster repairs and lower costs. For example, as we stated earlier, the 6066-CG Nitrocell generates its own nitrogen gas and this reduces the need to purchase additional gas cylinders when the shop runs out of the supply. This in turn can help keep repair costs down since it is an expensive item that will no longer need to be replenished.

Another example is the 6066-CG operates differently from traditional two-part repair systems for welding plastics by reducing the process to one step. You will find that most Tempe collision centers use the two-part system by using a separate material to bond the damaged item and requires a long curing time. Think of it like applying a bandage on top of a cut: the bandage is a separate material that helps the cut to form a scab and heal. To reduce that time, the 6066-CG instead bonds the thermoplastic material to itself and creates a stronger bond that does not require additional materials for the repair.

The Nitrocell has since been released for sale so, hopefully, the 6066-CG Nitrocell is something that you will see soon at a Tempe collision center near you so that you, too, can enjoy these benefits.
