Tempe Collision Reviews New AkzoNobel Product
Other than seeing the joy on our customers’ faces upon seeing their vehicle returned to its pre-collision condition, there is no greater thing we enjoy more than getting the opportunity to see and try out new products. We see new products and new technologies as opportunities for us to not only increase our efficiency and reduce costs but also to continually improve the quality service our customers have come to expect from Arizona Collision.
That is why our Tempe collision shop is quite excited to see that the folks at AkzoNobel has just announced a new primer product to their established commercial paint brand, called the U-Tech E250. Billed as a product that increases both quality and efficiency, we just had to check it out. Read on for more information about primer paint and how the U-Tech E250 steps up the game for standard primer paints.
ABOUT PRIMER PAINTS
Before we get into the new AkzoNobel product, let’s first take a look at vehicle primer paints in general. You would be surprised how often our Tempe collision center encounters customers who are unaware that a primer should even be used during a paint job. It is a bit concerning to think that some folks may end up being cheated by a shady body shop simply because the customer may be unaware of the painting process. That’s why our Tempe collision center is going to briefly outline what that process looks like and why primer paints should always be used.
In general, refinishing the paint on a vehicle will include stripping the previous remaining paint, debris, and oils from the vehicle; apply the primer; apply the basecoat; and, finally, apply the topcoat. These meticulous steps help ensure that you end up with a long-lasting finish on your vehicle that is beautiful and protects the metals from corrosion.
Since primer is the first coat applied to the vehicle, most Tempe collision shops see it as the most crucial step in refinishing a vehicle’s paint job. There are several reasons for this. First, the primer protects the cab from damage due to corrosion, chips, and, especially important here in the desert, heat damage. Second, the primer creates a smooth surface so that your colored basecoat has a beautiful, smooth as glass look that everyone covets. Finally, the primer creates a surface that the colored basecoat can adhere to and increases the paint’s lifespan.
ABOUT THE U-TECH E250
AkzoNobel’s U-Tech E250 primer paint is listed as an all-in-one surfacer and sealer that can be used on multiple metal surfaces and is easy to apply. Our Tempe collision shop is also happy to find that the primer is a low-VOC paint that is also HAPs-compliant, meaning that it creates little to no hazard to our environment and the planet. Also, as an easy to apply epoxy primer it guarantees a longer lasting protection and is more likely to protect your vehicle from any chemical or water damage. Hopefully, this is a product that our collision repair shop can begin testing out in the near future so that we can see for ourselves the positive benefits it will have for our customers.
