THREE FUN SIGNS THAT FALL HAS COME TO PHOENIX

Fall arrives a bit differently in Tempe than it does elsewhere in the United States. Our leaves don’t change quite the same and the air wants for that poetic crisp chill of the Atlantic Coast or Midwest’s changing of the seasons. Still, like people in general, some fall traditions remain the same wherever we go, whether it’s everything taking on a pumpkin-spiced flavor or adults and kids alike getting in on the fun & frivolity of Halloween.

Just like anyone else in the Valley of the Sun, the Tempe body shop professionals you know and trust enjoy taking a little bit of time out from pulling dents and restoring blemished bumpers to their former glory. PICKING PUMPKINS

Join us in launching the season with The Great Pumpkin Festival Oct. 13-17, marking the annual Desert Botanical Garden event’s first autumn in its new home at the venue’s recently opened events center and pumpkin patch. Admission is absolutely free with any paid Garden admission, to children under three and to members showing current Member ID cards. The entertainment is an absolute value, too, with crafts and activities for children, pumpkin picking and carving for children 12 and under, pumpkin-patch hayrides, country-western shows and entertainment, a petting zoo and more surprises in store.

HAUNT WITH THE ANIMALS

For over 20 years, our families have only felt like they’re in the thick of the Halloween season once we’ve joined the Phoenix Zoo’s two-day Boo! at the Zoo happening. This year’s edition takes place Oct. 19-20 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. both days. Spend a day filled with games, lively music, dancing and plenty of treats to go around for wild ones of the two and four-legged kinds. Though Boo! at the Zoo is bound to appeal more to children seven years old and younger, adults and older kids will definitely enjoy the Oct. 25 – 26 Howl-O-Ween celebration from 6:30 – 10:30 p.m. and its activities with three different scare levels for the brave and the bold of all levels, including an Oct. 26 overnight-camp experience. Be warned, Level 3 attractions are created with the intent to terrify. Visitor discretion advised.

TREATS FOR GROWN-UPS

Let’s be real: anymore, Halloween is as much for adult enjoyment as it is a romp for kids.

All month long, drop by the Four Peaks patio in Tempe to sit back, breath the cooler fall air deeply and savor the Phoenix brewery’s seasonal Pumpkin Porter. Don’t let the dark complexion fool you. This once-a-year brew has a light, crisp taste that’s accented with a rare, balanced blend of pumpkin and autumn spices.
